Throughout my career, I’ve never stopped questioning the validity of all the teaching principles I’ve applied, stimulated in this constant questioning by the fact that I give training courses to demanding musicians/teachers (and rightly so!).
Now retired, and in the true sense of the word, no longer involved in teaching, I’d like to share these questions and, where they exist, the answers I’ve come across.
It’s not my intention to give any more lessons, quite the contrary. I have always seen my work in terms of sharing experiences, both with children and with adults in teacher training.
In my opinion, teachers should never stop questioning.
However, it’s not a question of questioning everything all the time, otherwise you can’t work!
But questioning the relevance of this or that principle, looking for justification, or putting it aside when there is none, seems to me to be the best way to avoid being dogmatic and to stay alive and creative.
That’s why all these articles are questions and an invitation to share different or complementary points of view through the comments that readers can submit to the publication…
