It is always interesting to situate a composer within the history of music, not only in relation to the major periods highlighted in the first table, but also in relation to other composers of his or her era. In the sixty or so articles published for my ‘Écoutes musicales’ (Musical Listening) series, I have presented a different composer each time, with a few exceptions. ‘Timeline’ instructions for use
On the page that opens on the website ‘www.timetoast.com’, select ‘Timeline’ rather than “List” on the right under the title, and next to it, select ‘Fullscreen mode’ so that you can reduce or enlarge the table using the slider below.
- Clicking on the composer’s name will open a dialogue box containing links.
- Clicking on the name will open a tab with their portrait.
- Clicking on the recordings will open links to the website.
- Clicking on the title of the work will open the musical extract.
