Sa collaboration artistique et personnelle avec le t\u00e9nor Peter Pears marque profond\u00e9ment son \u00e9criture vocale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compositeur essentiellement tourn\u00e9 vers la voix, Britten excelle dans l\u2019op\u00e9ra, la musique chorale et la m\u00e9lodie, avec des \u0153uvres telles que <em>A Ceremony of Carols<\/em>, <em>The Turn of the Screw<\/em> et le <em>War Requiem<\/em>, manifeste humaniste contre la guerre. Op. 33 (1945)<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Lorsqu\u2019en 1945, Benjamin Britten cr\u00e9e son premier op\u00e9ra, \u00ab\u00a0Peter Grimes\u00a0\u00bb, pour la r\u00e9ouverture du Sadler\u2019s Wells \u00e0 Londres, le succ\u00e8s est \u00e9clatant. Qui est Peter Grimes, cet homme en butte \u00e0 l\u2019hostilit\u00e9 de son village, ce p\u00eacheur du Suffolk dont un apprenti trouve la mort en pleine mer\u2009? Un meurtrier ou un innocent\u2009? Un bourreau d\u2019enfant ou une victime des pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s\u2009? Un anti\u2011h\u00e9ros ou un po\u00e8te\u2009? Malheureusement, le premier jour, l&rsquo;une des femmes est tomb\u00e9e et s&rsquo;est bless\u00e9e \u00e0 la jambe, ce qui l&rsquo;a contrainte \u00e0 rester \u00e0 l&rsquo;h\u00f4tel. Heureusement, Britten, Peter Pears et Mary Potter, la bless\u00e9e, avaient tous apport\u00e9 leurs fl\u00fbtes \u00e0 bec, et Britten se mit \u00e0 composer cette suite de vignettes pour qu&rsquo;ils puissent jouer ensemble afin de lui remonter le moral !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Arrang\u00e9 plus tard pour soprano, alto, t\u00e9nor, basse&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9crit pour No\u00ebl, il se compose de onze mouvements (le 7\u00e8me \u00ab\u00a0Interlude\u00a0\u00bb est pour Harpe seule), avec un texte de The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems , \u00e9dit\u00e9 par Gerald Bullett. Le texte est principalement en anglais moyen, avec un peu de latin et d&rsquo;anglais moderne. La pi\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crite en 1942 alors que Britten \u00e9tait en mer, voyageant des \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 l&rsquo;Angleterre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Con\u00e7u \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine comme une s\u00e9rie de chansons ind\u00e9pendantes, il a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 unifi\u00e9 en une seule pi\u00e8ce avec le chant processionnel et r\u00e9cessional de cadrage \u00e0 l&rsquo; unisson bas\u00e9 sur l&rsquo;antienne gr\u00e9gorienne \u00ab\u00a0Hodie Christus natus est\u00a0\u00bb, entendue au d\u00e9but et \u00e0 la fin. Un solo de harpe bas\u00e9 sur le chant, accompagn\u00e9 de quelques autres motifs de \u00ab\u00a0Wolcum Yole\u00a0\u00bb, sert \u00e9galement \u00e0 unifier la composition. Dans un premier temps, le th\u00e8me de Purcell est expos\u00e9 par l&rsquo;orchestre au complet puis par chacune des familles instrumentales \u00e0 tour de r\u00f4le, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire les bois, les cuivres, les cordes puis les percussions.
