Elle a compos\u00e9, jou\u00e9 et dirig\u00e9 sa propre musique en France et aux \u00c9tats-Unis notamment, ce qui \u00e9tait assez rare \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque (les temps ont heureusement chang\u00e9 !). Mais elle est tomb\u00e9e dans un oubli injustifiable (femme dans un monde d&rsquo;hommes) vue la qualit\u00e9 et la diversit\u00e9 de son \u0153uvre. Compositrice, cheffe d&rsquo;orchestre, pianiste et p\u00e9dagogue,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/mot-clef\/marcelle-de-manziarly\/\">Marcelle de Manziarly<\/a>&nbsp;(1899-1989) a connu une certaine notori\u00e9t\u00e9 entre la Premi\u00e8re et la Seconde Guerre mondiale, avant de partir au \u00c9tats-Unis et revenir en France une fois la paix revenue.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/mot-clef\/marcelle-de-manziarly\/\">Marcelle de Manziarly<\/a>&nbsp;se partage ensuite entre les deux pays, et c&rsquo;est aux \u00c9tats-Unis qu&rsquo;elle&nbsp; meurt en 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette brillante \u00e9l\u00e8ve de&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/2023\/05\/11\/les-melodies-de-nadia-et-lili-boulanger-deux-compositrices-une-epoque-harmonia-mundi\/\">Nadia Boulanger<\/a>&nbsp;fait pourtant partie de cette cohorte de compositrices actives en France au d\u00e9but du XX<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle et que l&rsquo;on commence seulement \u00e0 red\u00e9couvrir, notamment gr\u00e2ce au travail remarquable de labels comme La Bo\u00eete \u00e0 p\u00e9pites :&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/2024\/03\/08\/jeanne-leleu-une-consecration-eclatante-la-boite-a-pepites\/\">Jeanne Leleu<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/2024\/02\/14\/rita-strohl-premier-volume-decouverte-enthousiasmant-dune-compositrice-de-la-demesure-la-boite-a-pepites\/\">Rita Strohl<\/a>, ou bien s\u00fbr&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/2018\/03\/15\/lili-boulanger-la-frenesie-dune-compositrice-hors-norme\/\">Lili Boulanger<\/a>, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce n&rsquo;est pourtant pas un label fran\u00e7ais, mais su\u00e9dois, Bis, qui propose, \u00e0 notre connaissance, la premi\u00e8re r\u00e9alisation discographique consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 la musique de chambre de Marcelle de Manziarly. Et c&rsquo;est un choc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Car cette compositrice, dont les \u0153uvres s&rsquo;\u00e9talent sur plus de six d\u00e9cennies, propose un monde sonore divers et passionnant. Un univers s\u00e9pare en effet la&nbsp;<em>Sonate pour violon et piano<\/em>&nbsp;de 1918 du&nbsp;<em>Trilogue<\/em>&nbsp;de 1977. Mais l&rsquo;intensit\u00e9 de la musique de Marcelle de Manziarly y est intacte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les instrumentistes, la violoniste&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/mot-clef\/cecilia-zilliacus\/\">Cecilia Zilliacus<\/a>, la violoncelliste&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/mot-clef\/kati-raitinen\/\">Kati Raitinen<\/a>, les pianistes&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/mot-clef\/bengt-forsberg\/\">Bengt Forsberg<\/a>&nbsp;et&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/mot-clef\/peter-friis-johansson\/\">Peter Friis Johansson<\/a>&nbsp;s&rsquo;y sont investis avec une totale passion. Et il y a de quoi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le disque s&rsquo;ouvre ainsi sur un chef-d&rsquo;\u0153uvre, le&nbsp;<em>Piano Trio<\/em>&nbsp;de 1921. Marcelle de Manziarly est encore au d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re, mais sa personnalit\u00e9 est d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien affirm\u00e9e. Le \u00ab&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Grave, rude, sans lenteur<\/em>&nbsp; \u00bb qui ouvre l&rsquo;\u0153uvre avec force est ainsi une page toujours changeante, dans les rythmes comme dans les timbres. Les \u00ab&nbsp; sonneries&nbsp; \u00bb et \u00ab&nbsp; batteries&nbsp; \u00bb de cloches du piano peuvent rappeler&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/2017\/03\/20\/ravel-dapres-ravel-sous-les-doigts-de-junko-okazaki\/\">Ravel<\/a>. C&rsquo;est bien tout un monde de myst\u00e8res qui s&rsquo;ouvre \u00e0 nous et se poursuit tout au long de l&rsquo;\u0153uvre. Que ce soit dans la danse enjou\u00e9e mais inqui\u00e8te du&nbsp;<em>Scherzo<\/em>&nbsp;ou les discr\u00e8tes dissonances du troisi\u00e8me mouvement \u00ab&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Sans trop de lenteur<\/em>&nbsp; \u00bb, avant l&rsquo;implacable \u00ab&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Rude<\/em>&nbsp; \u00bb final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un univers sonore tout autre appara\u00eet avec le&nbsp;<em>Dialogue pour violoncelle et piano<\/em>&nbsp;de 1970, d\u00e9pouill\u00e9 et plus dissonant. Les instrumentistes se r\u00e9pondent tout d&rsquo;abord \u00e0 travers de courtes s\u00e9quences minimalistes, presque l&rsquo;univers statique d&rsquo;un&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resmusica.com\/2022\/03\/09\/morton-feldman-au-dela-du-style-un-orateur-au-festival-de-middelbourg-dans-les-annees-1980-philharmonie-de-paris-editions\/\">Morton Feldman<\/a>, avant de s&rsquo;animer peu \u00e0 peu en une course poursuite haletante.<br>Retour \u00e0 la modalit\u00e9 et aux chatoiement \u00ab&nbsp; d\u00e9but de si\u00e8cle&nbsp; \u00bb avec la&nbsp;<em>Sonate pour violon et piano<\/em>&nbsp;de 1918. Une fois de plus Marcelle de Manziarly nous offre une musique lumineuse, parfois \u00e9l\u00e9giaque, \u00e0 la fois sereine et angoiss\u00e9e, sans aucune aff\u00e9terie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le disque s&rsquo;ach\u00e8ve sur le myst\u00e9rieux&nbsp;<em>Trilogue<\/em>&nbsp;pour violon, violoncelle et piano de 1977. Sous l&rsquo;influence de son s\u00e9jour aux \u00c9tats-Unis, Marcelle de Manziarly renoue avec la veine minimaliste et dissonante du&nbsp;<em>Dialogue<\/em>&nbsp;pour violoncelle et piano. Mais jamais la musique ne tombe dans l&rsquo;artifice ou la s\u00e9cheresse. Tout ici est vie, fr\u00e9missement et subtilit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les instrumentistes su\u00e9dois d\u00e9fendent ces pages fascinantes avec passion, \u00e9quilibre et justesse.
