Esta pr\u00e1ctica era habitual en los estilos vocal e instrumental, y permit\u00eda embellecer una l\u00ednea musical respetando la estructura arm\u00f3nica y r\u00edtmica de la pieza.<br>Ejemplo: si una nota larga de un comp\u00e1s se escribe como blanca, la disminuci\u00f3n puede transformar esta blanca en varias corcheas o semicorcheas tocadas en el mismo espacio de tiempo.<br>Funci\u00f3n art\u00edstica: la disminuci\u00f3n reflejaba la est\u00e9tica renacentista, que valoraba el equilibrio entre complejidad y estructura.
